This is it. The Big One! The one Bay Area Event above all others; The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion!
After spending a few days at The Mecum Monterey Auction 2017, I was ready to see some priceless machines in action! This year at the Reunion was going to be special, as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was celebrating its 60th anniversary by displaying race cars that were present at the first race in 1957! I managed to secure tickets to the Reunion for the whole weekend, with plans to stay with some friends who where camped out in RVs overlooking Turn 10. This would give me close access to Rainey Curve and the Corkscrew, which was just a short hike from the campsite!
Thanks to a friend I was able to get a photo vest for the entire weekend, allowing me to get even closer to the action just like when I shot the Spring Classic a few months before! The next couple of days was a blur of sunshine, octane, and even crashing normally closed-off events! I saw a lot of incredible things during my time at the racetrack, including Alpine’s 1963 M63 Le Mans Prototype, the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testarossa, the 1992 AAR/Toyota Eagle Mk III GTP, and several other beautiful pieces of racing machinery!
