Monterey Car Week is always chock full of different exclusive events, but there’s hardly enough time to visit them all! There are auctions, specialty car shows, and of course, the racing at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca! Last year, I was very lucky to get into one of the more exclusive events: The Concorso Italiano. This year was no exception!
This year saw some beautiful machines parked on the green at the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, California. However, the most exciting machine presented at Concorso Italiano was the new DeTomaso P72! I ended up chasing it around the golf course until I ran into both Peter and Gayle Brock! I met them last year at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion when they signed something for me and chatted about the Hino Samurai (a story for another time). They were more than happy to pose for a few pictures and sign a poster of the P72 for me!
If that wasn’t enough, I ended up running into another automotive legend: Valentino Balboni. The legendary test driver for Lamborghini Automobili was once again presenting the Balboni award for the best Lamborghini in the show. So, of course, I had to chase him down and get some pictures of him and some friends!
I’m going to remember this one for a long time!
