The Mecum Monterey Auction 2017 – Thursday, August 17th

As the week inched closer to the weekend, so did the uniqueness of the cars and motorcycles moving across the auction block!

The second day of the Mecum Monterey Auction 2017 was filled with excitement, as some very hot-ticket items were presented and auctioned off for thousands of dollars a piece. I arrived early in order to get acquainted with some of the vehicles that would be auctioned off, as well as take a sneak peak at some of the vehicles that would be auctioned later during the weekend. I managed to get up close and personal with the J. Geils collection, named after famed guitarist John Geils. Present in this collection was a damaged-but-otherwise gorgeous 1958 Alfa Romero Giulietta Sprint, a beautiful 1967 Fiat Dino Spyder with a “tricolore” stripe, and an outstanding 1983 Benelli 900 SEI!

The J. Geils collection was just a small sampling of some of the sights I would see as the day unfolded, as I took my place near the auction block and began snapping away at several highly desirable machines. Among those machines were several pre-war motorcycles, including an unbelievable 1938 Indian 438 Four, A bonafide 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T, and even a 1981 DeLorean DMC 12! What stole the show for me however, was the collection of ultra-exotics that would be selling later in during the weekend.

I came face to face with the Ferrari Enzo, a car that I lusted after when I was a teenager living on the East Coast playing racing games. I even had a poster of the Enzo above the headboard of my bed (in fact, it’s still there)! And parked next to it, was an actual Bugatti Veyron Supersport Grand Vitesse! I never thought I would ever get to see this car in person, let alone stand right next to it! Inside the same room was a Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 Edition Convertible, two La Ferraris, and a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. I was having a sensory overload! Then I stepped outside and saw the Pagani Huayra, which in my opinion is the most beautiful car on sale today! After trying to capture every small detail of each of these cars, I decided to end my trip to the Mecum auctions to clear my camera and prepare for the big event of the Summer: The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion!

Stay tuned!
